Don’t waste your money on this model. I had it for about 9 months and it was nothing but trouble. First the screen started going blank, then the battery wouldn’t hold the charge. I’ve decided not to waste my time with the customer service and bought a Panasonic set, which I am very happy with. Now I have 2 sets of broken Uniden sets in the closet. I can’t even throw them out because I can’t erase phone numbers from the caller ID.

THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE PHONES OR EVEN REFUND OUR PURCHASE PRICE. THERE IS NO WARNING IN THE MANUAL ABOUT PLACING THE PHONES ON FURNITURE AND THE PHONES ARE NOT TOO ACCESSIBLE FROM THE FLOOR! I didn’t have any of the problems the other reviewers had and am basically happy with the sound quality of the phone. But, this is my 2nd Vtech phone and both caller id screens ended up failing within a year. What’s the point of paying extra money to the phone company for caller ID when the phones fail to display the it? I won’t buy Vtech again. I am also having trouble finding a battery and they are costing almost as much as a whole new phone.

Poor sound quality, picks up interference from ANYTHING, including my toaster when it is plugged in. Voice mail messages are usually so garbled that they are not decipherable. The “Date/Time” feature can be set only once, if power is disrupted, it cannot be reset. Cheap yes, but not worth it even at this price.

I have been through two of these phones in the past three months. They usually stop working after the first month. I had one handset that only dialed a few numbers of a phone number, resulting in that annoying “If you’d like to a make a call, please hang up and dial again” message. The answering machine sounded like someone was using a jackhammer while leaving a message, and the date and time never set right. One handset of the two never worked at all. The phones also interfered with the internet: if I was online and the phone rang, I got the “cannot find server” message on my computer. I had someone from the phone company come out and he even said that the problem was the phone itself. I hooked a phone with a cord up and everything worked perfectly. Do not buy this piece of junk.
**The only reason I gave this product one star is because I was not allowed to submit my review with zero stars.

I purchased these phones last fall and they’re okay, but the answering machine stopped working a few months ago. I’ve tried reprogramming again and again, but it’s shot. The quality of the phones are so-so. Not bad, but I find myself turning to my cell phone when I want to get better reception. The caller i.d. works great, which is good since I no longer have an answering machine.

If you try to multi-task and hold the phone with one shoulder and your chin for a moment, the “off” button is positioned in a way that you hang up on the other person.

I’ll be buying new phones soon, and not from the same company. Oh, well. Live and learn.

Do yourself a favor and spend a little more $$!!! I purchased these phones for .99. The quality is totally not worth trying to save a few bucks! I actually thought the phones were defective when I first received them because when I placed them on their cradles there was no indication that either phone was receiving charge and it took 2 days for the phones to receive a full charge! If someone calls and you want to pick up the other phone while the 1st phone is already on “talk mode” you cannot! You actually have to hit the transfer button to be able to pick up the other phone! You cannot have both phones on “talk mode” at the same time!!! You also cannot set the caller ID to dial (1) in front of the phone numbers, so if you’re with a phone company like verizon, which requires you to dial “1″ before the number you will not be able to make calls from the caller ID log!!! You also have to hear messages in order to delete!!!

This phone would have been great if I had it in 1950s – where i would be happy to have something that is a cordless phone… but today .. nope..

so this phone feels like the father of all cordless phone technology. The Menus are very hard to go thru, nothing obvious or clearly seen here. If you have missed calls, you want to see previous calls, all of that is very hard to do with this phone. The look is very awkward and the whole experience was so slow with this phone. I got tired of it in few days and had to buy another one.

Don’t get me wrong, the phone didnt break or anything, the voice was clear n all but its menus and the whole feel is very old.

This is example American Telecom DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless 3-Phone Combo – Black comment from customer : Received this set very quickly, amazed at the quality for the price. Looks like and feels like and has the features of a set that would very easily be over 0 or more! I don’t use the answering machine part because I have vonage. One of the cool features on this set is the ability to use the phones as an internal intercom. Having 2 young adults in the home, often calls are for them and if they are upstairs, it sure beats yelling loudly up the stairs or having to run up the stairs just to say “It’s for you.” This set makes it easy to just press the INT button and then the corresponding phone number (all phones come numbered and the number shows up on the lcd as soon as you plug it in.) and it rings to that phone, the party answers. You can also use it just to talk to someone in another room or upstairs/downstairs to tell them dinner is ready or whatever! A great feature for a busy household! Quality is really nice.

I bought it and then read the reviews..! this phone really gave me a shock with all the problems mentioned in the comments. Shame on Panasonic for keep selling a problem unit. but i gave it a try with someone’s suggestion to replace the batteries. all working fine now… the only thing i hate about this phone so far is going through the missed calls or call history. each item will show the number 1st and then after a while the name of the person. so if anyone reading this comment with all the issues came with the phone, CHANGE THE BATTERIES…!

Review #3 : Exceptionally unimpressive, especially for Panasonic – sfexec –
I have purchased two of these phones and found that they often go dead when I pick up the phone. The battery meter does not work, as it always shows full battery charge.

I tested the battery life of the 2 NiMh batteries on the 3 handsets. they varied considerably. some lasted 2 days untouched, others lasted 6 days with some use (<1hr).

On the plus side, the phones sync up between each other after I checked on “missed calls,” and the access to the missed calls is now only one click not two on the previous generation.

the sound quality was below par, and the range was good, approximately 150 feet from one end to the other of a single story ranch house.

I would highly recommend avoiding these phones.

This phone has been a nightmare. Here are the problems I had experienced right out of the box:

1. No link to base messages
2. Battery low when there is a full charge right after taking it off the base
3. Screen goes out when attempting to switch call to speaker
4. Screen goes out when attempting to answer a call
5. Phone disconnects when attempting to answer or make a phone call

I was on the verge of throwing this piece of trash phone out and something made me search for a potential fix or explanation on the Internet. I have always had a Panasonic phone and never had an issue over the years. When you call Panasonic they act as if you don’t know how to use the phone…it is a new invention…really! I searched several sites and read through all the reviews both negative and positive. Several people indicated they had the same issues but changing the batteries solved the problem. I changed the batteries to AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. I used a Radio Shack brand in one handset, Duracell in the second, and left the Panasonic brand that came with the phone in the last. I have had no issues with the handsets using the non-Panasonic brand batteries for two days. The problems I had were occurring on a daily basis, multiple times a day. Change the batteries, you won’t regret it.

BTW, Panasonic customer service does not have a clue and they will have you send the phone to them and replace it with a refurbished unit. I would have never guessed the batteries were the issue since they were brand new, rechargeable, and came with the phone. My best guess is that people who have never had an issue got a decent set of batteries versus my defective set. I love the phone now that my problems have been resolved. The voice quality is great. I love the night time and call block feature. I’m giving it 3 stars because I had to troubleshoot a brand new phone and Panasonic was useless. If they sent out new batteries to everyone that called, at no charge of course, I’m sure the ratings for this phone would improve. I will update this review if I have any other problems.

I have not had a single problem with the issues noted above since changing the batteries. My headache is gone and my pocket book has been saved from purchasing another phone.

The answering machine recorder is really poor quality. You sound like you are in a barrel with static and your voice is not clear. You sound far, far away. Not so professional for a business answering machine. Features it doesn’t have that I wish it had is a speaker option and a “do not disturb” button. Really loud ring, not sure if you can adjust that.

That phone worked Ok too. But one day, I took it outside and forgot it at the deck. By the time I remembered, the handset sat in the rain for 30 minutes and totally soaked. From that day, the handset’s talk-time won’t last 30 minutes even after we replaced the battery. This phone and answer machine works fine. The package is a bit strange though: most of the stuffs are wrapped in plastic bags that are not sealed. But the product looks brand new. The handset does not feel as sleek as panasonic’s but the battery lasts days without a recharge. For the price, it can’t be beat.

i got the phone, i put it all together, and charged it for 25 hours, and it never worked. i called their 1-800 number, which didn’t work, and went to the website, where they had absolutely nothing to do with phones. this phone was bad news.

Review #4 : Battery wouldn’t charge – Rye Bread –
For it’s unbelievable price when I bought it (price has increased since then), this phone seemed too good to be true. It was the cheapest cordless phone and answering machine I could find online after extensive research and I was pleased with its supposed capabilities.

After receiving it, plugging it in, and charging it over night, I made a phone call on the very dim-lit LCD screen phone. It already had low battery and within 30 seconds or so an extremely loud beeping that both I and the other person could hear would come on signifying a low battery. Strange, as I had just charged it for a night. After repeated recharging attemps, I made no progress with charging the battery. The only remote reason I could see for this happening is that when I first charged it, I stuck it in cradle and it jiggled out a little bit, which may have meant to the phone that I had stopped it’s initial charging cycle already and that was the maximum the phone would ever charge in the future. I’m not quite sure.

Needless to say, I returned the phone for a full refund through Amazon because I couldn’t get in touch with the manufacturer (they had already gone out of business).

The reason I give this phone a 2 because it did not function properly for me. It looks like a game of chance to get a working phone. I decided after all that I didn’t actually need a phone for my dorm room, so I have no further recommendations but I hope this review helps in your decision.

Review #1 : “out of range” and “searching” problems – Giggles – Boston, MA
Sound familiar? If you call Tech Support (good old Thomsom, Inc. gotta love ‘um) they will tell you to check the battery. So you will probably go out and spend – on a new battery. If you find out this doesn’t work, you’ll look in the manual, because who has time to to call Tech Support back, right? So yeah, you look in the manual, and it tells you to “start over” which means unplugging the piece of you-know-what from the wall, removing the battery from the phone and praying for 15 minutes, afterwhich you have to carefully (carefully now) replace everything in the exact reverse order. So you do all that, first carefully replacing the battery then replugging. (And if you are really astute, you may be asking yourself, but where does the phone line fall into this order, am I supposed to have unplugged that at some point too?) So this may not work either. Seriously. So you go out to price new phones and don’t feel like spending another , especially to go through this whole thing again. So like a fool, you will call Tech Support again. This time Tech support will ask if you did “start over” correctly – and yes, DID you unplug the phone cord? They will tell you to do it over (unplugging the phone cord this time) and if this doesn’t work to send it back if it’s still under warranty. Which I guarantee it will be, because the phone is a piece of you know what. So what won’t Tech Support tell you? If it’s not the battery, and if the phone doesn’t require “start over” then the handset ain’t communicating with the base. As in “copy Dallas?” No Dallas, we have a problem. So like then after all that grief you will probably notice that there’s some instructions in your manual for Registration, De-Registration, and Global De-registration. If your manual came in English and you speak English. Mine came in Spanish. My Spanish isn’t so good. You are probably asking, what are these for, if you can read your manual. Ever seen Karate Kid? Mr. Miyagi says, “Funny you should ask.” So anyway, this worked for me and before you waste 4 hours doing what I’ve already done above, try playing with these. What worked for me anyway, was first doing Global-Deregistration. Then I did Deregistration. Then I did Registration. There’s a catch. Why not, right? So like the buttons on the phone are probably not set up the way the manual says they are. And the viewscreen on the phone may not actually tell you that you actually did Global-Deregistration or Deregistration. Mine didn’t anyway. Mine did tell me when it was Registering – or Re-registering, as it was in this case to be exact. I swear these things are possessed. At any rate, this all worked for me and I hope anyone else with this problem can benefit from this by saving time or their hard earned money.

i have had this phone since march 2004. the answer machine cuts off before the people can leave a phone # and short message and when i have an apartment for rent and pay about 5.00 for the ad in the newspaper and get home to 25 or so messages. most of the phone #s are cut off because the people leave their phone # last after their short message. Also i just bought a new battery at thanksgiving and it is almost dead now and the phone is not used that much for talking.

Thought this phone looked very good. Was wrong. I’ve had it for about a year. Just bought a new phone from Panasonic.

The things I dont like about the GE are:

–Every now and then, seemingly at random, it says “Press review key to review setup instructions”. Then it looses the date and greeting message. Setting the clock over and over is a pain.

–It gets very warm when charging.

–Here’s the biggest one. The buttons are not working more and more as time goes by. The top 3 barely work at all. Not good if you were in an emergency. The old phone company phones worked forever. Only less than a year for this one.

You need to locate and or relocate the phone base where it will receive very little or no interferance . Other then that , its a great phone .. . Each phone has its own phonebook , ring tones . This phone has some nice features but what is features it they are not useable. The ringing options is entertaining but what is entertainment with fustation. The sound quality is very very poor even on speakerphone. The answering machine puts static into your recorded announcement. The phones reception goes in and out even standing near the base. I thought that buying a Motorola would be like the sound quality of a motorola cell phone but I guess not. Dont waste your money get a VTECH.

Last phone system we had we had three phones but I found I didn’t like having one in the kitchen. Too easy to be tempted to answer with messy or wet hands, so we went with two this time. I could not tell by the description of the item if it had a message alert (for messages) but we decided to order it anyway. I tell you I about danced with joy when it came and it did indeed have a message alert. Our last phone did not and we didn’t notice messages for days at a time. The Morotola Dect 6.0 takes up very little space, looks great, has different ring tones (fascinates hubby) and my children say it looks much more modern. Mind you, they still sell the machine we had when we bought this. Arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. The only problem I am having and I am sure if I got the book out and read about it I could remedy it, but I an barely hear people some times when they are speaking. The base was about half the size of my old one and in a small apartment that was a necessity.

The phone works well, the answering machine is excellent, the features are great (I’m still figuring them all out). The only negative is the handset is really too small for my big hands (one reason why I don’t like cell phones). This handset is about half the size of my old one and I am still trying to get used to it.

Review #2 : Not so great battery – Amazon Shopper –
I bought this phone based on consumer report reviews and the corded phone works great but the battery in the cordless phone is terrible. The battery dies after 1 hour of conference call. Then it would take at least 8 hours to recharge again.

I would not recommend this phone especially for business use.

I purchased the base unit (which includes one handset) and two additional handsets. They worked okay for about a month or so, then the handset started inexplicably dying. Sometimes the screen went totally blank and you would lose the call or couldn’t dial. Othertimes the screen said that I was too far away from the base (even when I was literally right next to the base). So I called customer service and they said that it sounded like I needed a new battery (after a MONTH!). I actually read the directions before using the phone and I wasn’t even putting the phones on the bases to recharge after every call so that the NI CD batteries wouldn’t develop a memory (they don’t use the better Lithium Ion batteries that do not develop a memory). So this made no sense. Anyway, I went ahead and bought the batteries (for all three handsets) and that didn’t solve the problem at all. I then went ahead and purchased another handset. Again, no problems for a month and then the same issue. Customer service issued remanufactured phones (4 handsets) and in about a month to 8 weeks all were exactly the same.

I know I wasn’t doing anything wrong to cause this. I began searching the Internet and low and behold I am not alone. Apparently a law firm in New Jersey has already filed a class action law suit against Panasonic for the entire KX-TG and KX-TC cordless phone lines. Search “panasonic cordless phone class action” on google. It will be the first hit. As an attorney myself (not in any way affiliated with or even previously aware of the firm that has filed the suit), I can tell you it takes a lot of consumer complaints before a law firm decides to invest its resources in a class action suit as they are very expensive and time consuming.

So, I’ve learned my lesson the hard way (although there wasn’t anything I could’ve done differently at the time of purchase). Hopefully, my experience and research into this can prevent you from having to deal with it in the future. Panasonic was unjustly enriched in distributing such a defective product and not having the corporate decency to at least recall it and replace it with a functioning line or refunding our hard earned dollars. Very disappointing and I certainly will not be purchasing the Panasonic brand again.

Have had total of 3 systems. Generally work well. The WORST part is the OEM NICAD battery. It is HORRIBLE. Buy the Energizer NIMH replacement on e-bay. It is MUCH better battery.
